The SLC-96 Series 5 is a dual channel bank that contains two systems of 96 lines each, one system blue, the other white. Like the SLC-96 system, Series 5 arranges 4 digroups (each containing 24 lines) into each system.

Each of the four digroups that makes up a system is identified by a letter--Digroup A, Digroup B, Digroup C, Digroup D.

The middle shelf, which is half blue and half white, is called the facility shelf. It contains the Line Interface Units (LIUs).
