The SLC-96 channel bank consists of four digroups, which combined house 48 SLC-96 channel units and 16 common equipment units.

The SLC-96 system (pronounced "slick 96") is capable of single-party, multi-party, coin, and special services. The type of service is determined by the designated channel unit plug-in.

For example, single-party service requires two channel units, the WP10 in the COT and WP20 in the RT.

Every channel unit plug-in is a dual unit containing two independent two-wire subscribers. The only exception is coin service, in which case each plug-in unit contains one channel.
