  How the Lessons Store Records:
All of our lessons are programmed to record information about the students who use them while in TRAINING MODE. Activity in RESEARCH MODE is not tracked. The lessons record the following information which is viewable in an organized, sortable format through Delta Helm:
  • user's name
  • user's password
  • user's place in the lesson
  • user's place in the end assessment
  • user's score on the end assessment (if completed)
Nothing is required by the user to make the program perform this function. It does this automatically when the user logs in and exits the lesson. We have built in the ability for a training administrator or IT person to specify where the records are stored. If the lessons are run directly from the CD, the user will be prompted for a records directory EACH TIME the lesson is started.

When dealing with a network installation, there are several key facts to remember. The lessons may be placed anywhere on the network. They may reside on the server or on any workstation attached to the network. The lessons will perform best if they are located on the hard drives of the computers that will be used by the trainees.

The folder created to store all of the Fundamentals records may also reside anywhere on the network. This gives training administrators the flexibility to store the records on a central server, their own training admin computers, or on a separate workstation designated for that sole purpose. However, there MUST be 2-way communication between the lesson users' computers and the folder where the records reside. In other words, the training computers must have full read/write access at least to the records folder on the server/admin computer/workstation/etc.

Access permissions can prevent the computer on the user end from writing the student tracking information to the records computer. This is because most Windows-based network configurations use "user group" permissions. This means that there are groups defined on the server to which certain people belong--such as the accounting department or the training department--and these groups can be permitted or denied access to specific directories on the network or the server. For example, accounting directories and files are generally restricted to prevent tampering by unauthorized personnel. If a student uses a machine that is logged into the network under a group that does not have access to the network location or server directory where the records are stored, the lesson will NOT be able to read or save student records!
